The re-oxidation equipment was arranged as shown in this figure. A 1.8 inch diameter tube furnace was pre-heated to the desired temperature at least two hours prior to the beginning of the re-oxidation. An O2 flow of 1 liter per minute was bubbled through the deionized water and passed through the furnace tube. The samples were slowly inserted into the furnace tube. After the desired re-oxidation time the samples were slowly moved to the exit end of the furnace tube with the oxygen flowing and allowed to cool for 30 minutes before removal. The same procedure used for preparing the samples for re-oxidation was used to clean the samples prior to metallization.
